Gmail Inbox Strategy (GIS) – KIRIM.EMAIL

Gmail Inbox Strategy (GIS)

On this page, we will learn about Gmail Inbox Strategy (GIS). GIS is a method that functions to make our sent email not go to spam but go to Update or Primary folders. It is based on my experiences who have sent more than 55 million emails during 2015.

Know the Types of Tabs or Folders in Gmail

Before we discuss GIS further, better, we discuss the folders or the tabs are in gmail first. In general, there are 4 types of folders in gmail, which include:

  • Primary
  • Social
  • Promotion
  • Update.

Primary

  • When there are incoming emails, you usually get a notification immediately, especially on smartphones.
  • Primary is the main folder where your incoming email is located. Besides, the primary is also a folder for incoming emails that are sent directly without going through an email broadcast or autoresponder service.

Social

  • The contents of the email in this folder or tab are email notifications of updates on social media.
  • It comes from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and else which are still included in the social media category.

Promotion

  • The promotion contains emails offering products or services.
  • The senders are from online shop owners or admins, affiliate marketers, and many else.

Update

  • This is the folder whose sender is the same as promotion but the content of the email is not a product offer.
  • It can also be a folder for incoming emails from certain services such as Trello, Basecamp, and so on.

Disclaimer

Practicing everything on this page does not guarantee that your email will go to the Primary Inbox. And it doesn’t guarantee that the email that has entered Primary will stay there forever.

Not following all the instructions here also does not guarantee that the email you send does not enter the SPAM folder or the Promotion folder.

In the end, all will return to your relationship with the owner of the email address on your list. The better your relationship with the subscribers, you will get the open rate higher so do the delivery rate of the emails you sent.

GIS: Gmail Inbox Strategy

Now we entered into the essence of our discussion here. There are at least 20 points in this GIS, which are as follows:

#1 Teach the email recipient(s) to move your email to the Primary folder.

For the first time, we send an email using a broadcast email service or email autoresponder, most likely the email will go into the SPAM or Promotion folder. To make the next email go to the Primary, you need to ask or teach the email recipient(s) to move your email to the Primary folder.

The goal for that action is to make your second email and so on can enter the Primary folder automatically. It can be done because the first email recipient has moved manually by your email recipient(s).

To teach your email recipient(s), you can create a page that contains a tutorial on how to move emails from any folder to the Primary folder. This is commonly referred to as a whitelist page. You can see the example page here: https://kirim.email/whitelist or https://emailkerja.id/whitelist.

#2 If your email goes to the SPAM folder tell the email recipient(s) to mark it as Not Spam.

Marking an incoming email to SPAM as NOT SPAM is the most effective ANTI SPAM method to date.

#3 Use the sender’s email address with its domain

Don’t use a free email address like Gmail or Yahoo!. But use a business email address using your domain. For example fikry@kirim.emailldion@belanjabio.com, and so on.

If you used an email address with your domain for promotion, it is better than sending an email with a free email address such as Gmail or Yahoo!. The reason is that the delivery rate is higher.
If you don’t have one, you can create it at https://emailkerja.id.

#4 Avoid writing emails that have SPAM-like characteristics

The main thing for this case is the email subject. Avoid choosing and writing email subjects that contain the words SELL, BUY, FREE, PROMO, DISCOUNT, and so on.

#7 Do not put pictures or attachments in email, especially if in the previous email you just sent a promotional email

If you send promotional emails for three to four days in a row, then on the 5th day don’t send an email with a picture. It will make your email will go to SPAM. However, if in three to four consecutive days the email you send is not promotional, it doesn’t matter if you send an email with an image on the 5th day.

#7 Do not have too many links in the email

You may input multiple links in the email. But the link should point to the same links. For example, link 1, link 2, link 3, and link 4 should point to page A. What you can’t do is you input the link and pointed to different pages. This is what you should avoid.

#8 Do not automation too much

For me, the best emails are those sent manually. Avoid using the autoreply feature and reduce the number of autoresponders. In my opinion, the maximum number of autoresponders is three times a day.

#9 Write your email like sending an ordinary email, write it to one person even if the recipient is thousands of people

Use the greeting as if you are talking to only one person.

#10 Do not promote multiple items in one email

The concept is the same as in the many links in the email earlier.

#11 Remind subscribers to write the right email addresses

Writing the wrong email address can cause the email unsent with a probability of 90 percent. For example, instead of write @gmail.com, many people write it as @gamil.com, @gnail.com, and so on.

#13 Alternating sales emails with useful emails.

Send useful emails and have two-way interactions with your customers.

#14 Write the physical work address in the email

Google itself recommends that you should write a physical address in every email you sent. If you left it blank, it takes effect for 80% of email deliveries.

#15 Use technology

You can use the technology available at KIRIM.EMAIL. The technology can find out the email you send is included in the SPAM email candidate or not. There are 3 technologies, namely SPAM Score technology, Custom Variable, and Automatic Unsubscribe Links.

If the SPAM Score of your email is higher, so is the potential for the email to go to the spam.
Meanwhile, the Custom Variable allows you to mention the name of each recipient so it makes the email very personal. The more personal, the potential email go to the Primary is higher.

For this Custom Variable to function properly, your form must have a name format left blank. So that the prospective customers can input their names.

Automatic Unsubscribe Link also affects your email whether it is spam or not. Emails that do not include an unsubscribe link will go to spam and it will be very difficult to enter the Primary folder.

#16 Use the Double Opt-In Form

When you create a form, make sure you use a double opt-in form. So, your prospect must first confirm his/her email address. They will give their email address voluntarily.

#17 Sending Emails Frequently

By sending emails every day, it has consequences. It will make your subscribers’ numbers go down. But on the other hand, it will create an open rate, and your delivery rate also increases. Also, the potential of email to go to the Primary folder is even higher.
And most importantly, send an email every day even though your number of subscribers is small.

#18 Make sure people on your list permit you to send email

Do not carelessly import email addresses without permission, especially scrapped email addresses.
Use the form so that your prospective subscribers provide their email address consciously and without coercion.

#19 That interaction counts

You may not run from any of the above, but not this one. The interactions here include opening the emails, click the links and email replied.

If your email interaction is higher, the delivery rate is better. If that already good, the potential for the email to go to the Primary folder will be even higher.

Your email is opened because the subject that you use is interesting.
The link will be clicked if there is a clear CTA command.
An email will be replied to if you provoke an email recipient to reply to your email. This is the most important thing because in email marketing, being replied to is gold. Because once people reply to your email, it will be easier for your next email to go to the Primary folder.

It starts with all your promotions. Put on your promotion that everything will be emailed. The goal is to get your prospect are used to opening and reading emails so that it becomes a habit.
Those are the steps about how to get your email into the Primary folder and not into SPAM. Hopefully, this is useful and if you still have questions please send your email to fikry@kirim.email. Thank you.
